1: Explain the difference between the two social groups in regards to the Beetles and Elvis Presley. Why would each have the preference that it holds?
Greasers have a different set of values and are emotional and poor but are family, while the Socs are more sophisticated and rich. Socs will say they like things they really don't like just to be cool. Socs are always ongoing; can't be satisfied; don't let their real self show through. They feel "too violently".
2: Cherry explains that part of what keeps the two groups apart is that the greasers are overly emotional and the socs are two emotionally numb.Of the two extremes, which one do you think is better?
I strongly think that the Greasers are better because they are who they are and they do not change themselves just to be cool. They are family and are always together. The greasers so not pick out a fight first, but if they were in a fight, they will firstly defend themselves and their "brothers" in the gang.
3: Ponyboy says that he and Johnny “understood each other without saying anything”. Explain how this is possible.Have you ever had this kind of relationship with a friend or sibling? Explain.
The boys might have similar stories and they are like brothers, they have known each other for years and basically they were raised up together. I've had this experience with my best friend, how she always understands me while saying something stupid or not making sense.
4: Sodapop's connection to the horses named Mickey mouse can actually be seen as a metaphor for his relationship with Darry. How so.
The reason Soda feels so strongly about Mickey Mouse comes from a sense of connection. Soda feels out of place in his world. He is expected to attend school, but he hates it; his brothers, on the other hand, love it and are good at it. Soda eventually drops out, because he knows he won't succeed there. Soda is the middle child, stuck between the warring Darry and Ponyboy. Darry is the protector, Ponyboy is the protected and Soda is ... out of place. Mickey Mouse is an ornery horse, not well-liked by other horses and most humans. He is out of place in his world, and Soda sympathizes with him.
5: Why would Cherry be attracted to Dally. Do your best to explain the complicated, conflicting emotions that cherry is feeling.
Dally releases a sort of "bad boy" behaviour, for a boy. He is VERY attractive and confident and also a bit dangerous. Cherry likes his charm and s repelled by it. Dally is also unlike the Socs boys she knows and is tired of.
