Ponyboy is different from the rest of his Greaser crew because he is quite intelligent, he usually does well in school and likes to read whereas the rest of his crew aren’t very smart, and it’s a good trait for a narrator to have because it makes us feel like we can trust them or relate to him. 2- How do Ponyboy's relationships with Carry and Sodapop differ? EXPLAIN... Ponyboy is closer to Sodapop than he is with Darry because Ponyboy says that Sodapop always makes him laugh and he even loves him more than he loved his mother and father. 3- What has Johnny learned from the gang that he couldn't learn from his parents? What's the irony in this. Johnny's parents are abusive, so the members of the group has been the force to teach him about love and family. The boys take care of each other and show that to Johnny, which is more than what Johnny’s parents do for him. The irony is that the public people sees the greasers as danger, but the group are actually caring and selfless than other groups like the socs. Instead of the hatred towards the group, the group defines love, family and acceptance for each member. Students also tend to behave the expected way in front of their parents, but they behave in a way that’s closer to their true selves when they’re with their friends. 4- As they are falling asleep, how does Ponyboy react to what Sodapop tells him about Darry? Ponyboy comes in terms to pretend to accept to agree with Sodapop and understand's that Darry is tough on him out of love, but he doesn’t really agree or understand. Why does he treat pony boy the way he does? Yes, Darry definitely loves his youngest brother, but his stressed for working so hard and when ponyboy doesn't listen to him. Darry treats ponyboy the way he does because he is trying to be like a father figure to him and he wants to the good care of him, since their parents have passed away. Darry isn’t soft and warm, but he does love his brothers. If he didn’t love them, he wouldn’t work so hard and wouldn’t hassle them like he does. 6- At the end of the chapter, Ponyboy says, "I lie to myself all the time. But i never believe me." Explain what he means. In what way is this idea true for you, as well? In the scene, ponyboy is telling himself that he wont love his eldest brother Darry, anymore, but he knows that it is a lie. it is obvious that he will always love Darry because Darry is part of his family. All children around the world lie to themselves while being aware of what were really doing. We all lie to ourselves when we choose to believe something that isn't true just because it makes our lives easier. For example, a parent defending a child who lied in school, refusing to believe the truth coming out of the teachers mouth.
